Placebo Effect is define as "A remarkable phenomenon in which a placebo -- a fake treatment, an inactive substance like sugar, distilled water, or saline solution -- can sometimes improve a patient's condition simply because the person has the expectation that it will be helpful”, or in other words believing in something can create wonders.
The corporate world, seemingly eager to capitalize on the talents they possess, generally look for known methodologies and practices to achieve it. One of them is to improve the working environment.
This comes out of the widespread belief that descent working environment encourage people to come up with their best.
They are not wrong either; millennial organizations like Google, Facebook are pioneers of creating healthy office environment. The culture of these organizations are largely credited for the success and innovations they bring in.
Indeed descent working culture is must to have, but this is not the main driving force behind the desire to change. On the contrary, it sometimes fuels status quo.
From "Abraham Lincoln" to "Narendra Modi" and "Bill Gates" to"Steve Jobs", none of them were having best of the environments to excel. They were motivated more by what they believed in.
For any organization to change or excel, there employees should believe in the idea of change. Believing in something will be the driving factor to determine whether the proposed change is successful as intended or not, all other things (though important) are secondary (add on).
"No matter how good weapon you give to an army, unless made to believe that they can win, they can’t"
Unfortunately, organizations as well as individuals ignore this invisible force, while at the same time focus excessively on environmental factors.
Even though we’d like to change everything around us, it’s better to remember these 3 words which matters the most.
"Believing is Achieving"
